Yesterday I received a phone call from a deeply accented man whom I believe was from India.

He claimed he was from Windows and that they were receiving multiple errors from my computer and that it was at risk and I needed to follow his directions.

He said that my computer was at great threat to be hacked.  I told him that I didn’t know who he was and I didn’t wish to do anything he was asking me to.

We reversed the phone number and it was a Verizon cell phone out of New Jersey.

I told him that I wanted to talk to his supervisor and he informed me that he was not available.

I told him that I wanted a way to call HIM back and then I’d follow his instructions, all along feeling that this was a serious scam.

He gave me an 888 number and we called it.  Another Indian sounding accent man answered the phone and announced nothing about WIndows or Microsoft. (oh, by the way, I was supposed to ask for Brad Waeson. I asked him how to spell it, directly.)

I was specifically told, before we called the 888 number that “if you ignore this warning call and you get hacked it will be on your head.” I asked him since when does Windows make phone calls threatening me.  He insisted it was not a threat. I repeated back to him what he said and told him that I felt it was a direct threat.

Through all of this information, he thought I was following along on my computer. He started by telling me to turn it on, which it was already on. I started taking notes about what he wanted me to do.  I did nothing on my machine.  He wanted my machines ID number.

After we called the 888 number, I told “Brad” that “I didn’t appreciate his call and he could have a good night” and immediately hung up. I don’t know why I was so nice, other than I still had no idea what was going on.

So I turned to Google.

I found this thread that talked about it being a scam and there were 130 replies about it. Some were scammed and some were smart, like we were and hung up.

The interesting part about this is that this man called me by name and called me on my cell phone number which was not even my number when I purchased and installed Windows on this machine.  I’m doing all I can to scan now.  I had some real blog issues to deal with today and now that that is cleared up and I’ve written about this, I’m off to run the scans and do some behind the scenes clean ups.

Beware.  Don’t be fooled.  NEVER give any information over the phone to anyone calling you.  I only paid attention to this caller because he called me by name.

I love to sell and buy online.

I love to give great feedback as I receive it not as its given.

The worse thing you can say to me as a buyer from a seller is that they will give me feedback after it is received.

That’s not giving me feedback for what I’ve done.  I’ve ordered your product. I’ve paid promptly, and I’ve done my part. THAT is what I get feedback for.

NOT for the feedback I give you.  YOU get it for what you do and I get it for what I do and simply that’s it.  If you want to wait to give me feedback based on what I give you is not giving me credit for what I’ve done and I won’t be doing business with you again.

If you wish to wait for my feedback before you give feedback, I don’t need your feedback!

I’m home.

Its been a rough three weeks.

My mom is home and doing well.

My cat’s biopsy came up positive for cancer.  He’s living on drugs. Must put him down.

Will blog soon when I can think again.

Not much is going on while I’m out of town, visiting my mother, who is in the hospital.  I did run two series, that I had a lot of fun putting together. You may wish to check them out..

How I sort my computer desktop folders, according to the Six Elements of Simple Abundance:

Simple Abundance: Gratitude

Simple Abundance: Simplicity

Simple Abundance: Order

Simple Abundance: Harmony

Simple Abundance: Beauty

Simple Abundance: Joy

I wanted to run a “12 days of” and since my blogs are basically started over, I thought I’d bring some of my favorite posts forward and curate some others to give you:

The 12 Days of Pumpkin (still running)

While I’m staying at my mothers house, because its closest to the hospital, I’m typing up some family history she has, that I didn’t have.  The family history blog, FamilyHugz, may explode in the next couple of weeks, as time permits.  Combining her history with my history is the start to our beautiful bound published family book.

There is so much going on.

SimplyCarolinaDreamz is in full swing with 30 Days of Truth – As Raw as I get.

PeculiarStandardz can finally be worked on.. now that my computer can see it and get to it. What a nightmare this has been. Every other computer could see it just fine. It was some type of DNS blockage on my machine. Hopefully it will stay fixed this time. I started a new series, over there, called Celestial University with a Twist. I’ll incorporate many of my spiritual avenues, not just an LDS version for me.

School is running as fast as I can.  I’m so ever thankful for the insight to withdraw from my English class. I forgot about a second fast track class that is very consuming.  I think I’m managing but I’m constantly worried that I’m not organized, enough, and I’m missing something. I hate that feeling.

I had an iron infusion a couple weeks ago and have new dosages for some of my medications, and I think I’m feeling better energy-wise. More blood work on Monday about my cholesterol.  I still will refuse statin drugs.

I filed From My Own Office LLC.

I joined a journaling community.

I pitched a Family History beginners session for barcampchs.  I’ve been getting some materials printed, getting a folder of forms ready, and getting deliveries of the books I’m giving away. It should be great, if its voted in.

I, finally, get this temporary crown out of my mouth this week, too.  And then Friday I’m off, for a Kevin Costner movie marathon with my step-mother, in Georgia. Fun times.  I found No Way Out, The Body Guard, and Field of Dreams stream on Netflix.  I just need to pick up a rental of The Guardian and Message in a Bottle and we’ll have plenty to choose from.

Now you are all caught up on the goings on around here.  See ya next week. 🙂

Life has been crazy.  I don’t have any posts to recap here.. so I thought I’d take a moment to just update you on some jumbled things going on in my life.

I spent the last three weekends (some extended) at Drupal Camp Asheville, Type-A-Mom Conference in Asheville, and Converge South in Greensboro.

In between Drupal Camp and TypeaMom, I had a root canal, under a crowned molar.  Fun.  Not.

I have three weeks to catch up with.  8 million blog posts cooking in my head.

I’m, also, a full-time student.. so it may take me some time to catch up.  But, when I do, you will be the first to know.

This afternoon, I’m off to the hematologist for the results and plans for my next iron infusion. I, honestly hope its time because that would mean my “tired” has a reason.  This is not a bad thing.  Before my WLS, I didn’t get out of bed, often.  This is a small sacrifice for having so much more of my life back.

I met some amazing people at these conferences that I attended.  I even recognized someone from my virtual past.. very wonderful things can happen and as soon as they are blogged about.. the posts will be mentioned over here.

Take care and have a great week.
